This is a riverside apartment suburb these days, reborn from the old industrial land along the Parramatta River. Well over ninety per cent of the housing stock is units, and most of that sits inside the Shepherds Bay high-rise precinct wrapped around the station and ferry wharf.

All that density steers the sort of work we do. Fit-outs and renovations right across the Shepherds Bay towers throw up a steady run of switchboard and metering upgrades, since a made-over apartment pulls far more current than its original board was ever specced for.

The giveaway is a board that cuts out whenever demand peaks, or a meter box with no spare position for another circuit. The remedy is usually a switchboard upgrade, and in a strata building the metering side often gets sorted in the same visit.

Towers are not the whole picture, though. A surviving cluster of post-war brick houses still holds the higher streets, and many of those places run ceramic fuse boards from a much simpler electrical age.

Each of those boards gets an honest assessment, and most finish up replaced by a modern one with a safety switch on every circuit. Where one of those older houses is under renovation, a full rewire to current standard tends to come with it.
